Technology in the Classroom

Technology is an innovative way to make learning fun, allow students to work at their own pace, take ownership of their learning, and be better prepared for the future. Facilitating learning through technology in the classroom is preparing our students for their future in the digital age as today's workforce thrives on collaboration and problem solving.
Here are just a few ways that I've integrated technology into the classroom.

Glen Cove High School students are extremely fortunate to have modern television, podcasting, and recording studios at their fingertips. Fostering interdisciplinary instruction and utilizing our current technology is an important aspect of  creating a well-rounded education. The above pictures demonstrate my TED Talks students completing their final assignment of the semester: recording their original TED-style talks on a topic of interest to them. Not only did the students brainstorm ideas, conduct research, and write their very own TED Talks, they also learned the workings of a television studio and recorded one another!

Piloting Technology

For one week, I was given the wonderful opportunity to pilot the Newline Board for my school district.  My students, co-teacher, and I had such a fun and engaging time experimenting with it! I love technology and welcome any and all chances to learn, grow, and try something new! It is important to foster these values in my students and I know that the only way to do so is to lead by example.

Actively Learn

Actively Learn is a web-based reading platform that empowers readers to annotate, edit, share, think critically, and collaborate. It contains thousands of ELA, science, and social studies texts that students can highlight, annotate, and discuss as they read. I started utilizing this platform during remote learning and continue to do so for its flexible and accessible features - I am easily able to differentiate instruction by customizing each text for my readers based on their individual needs!
