Independent Reading

As an English teacher, it's no surprise that I adore reading. Not only is it one of the best forms of entertainment, but reading is one of the most powerful tools to help us learn. Through books, novels, stories, poems, etc., we can learn about others similar and different from ourselves, improve our focus, expand our memory, further develop our vocabulary, understand how to be more empathetic, and to communicate more effectively. In my classroom we foster these skills on a daily basis to promote mastery, expand horizons, and cultivate a like or love of reading. In order to further engage students and create a supportive classroom, I like to practice what I preach and read along with them. I display the independent reading books I have completed and seek student recommendations.
